What inspires you? A dialogue with designer and shamanic practitioner Lori Dalvi

Lori Dalvi

ASEI Arts is pleased to feature a series of inspiring Q&A interviews with the authors and producers featured in our Anthology House book.. All profits from the sale of the book will benefit Habitat for Humanity’s “Habitat Hammers Back” initiative.

This week, we feature book designer Lori Dalvi who contributed her graphic design insights to the production of the Anthology House book.

ASEI: What inspires you each day?

LD: I have a list of practices, tools, etc. for creativity and self-care (one in the same thing to me). I like to see how many of those I can fit into my day. Whether it's opening sacred space, doing breath work, creating new offerings for clients in my shamanic practice, walking & spending time in nature, doing yoga, etc., I try to make sure that some of these are included as small prayers throughout my day. Surrendering to even only one can shift my entire mood and mindset and I am able to do deeper and different creative work.

ASEI: How has your creativity helped you to navigate a change in your circumstances for the better? This can be a feeling or an intangible effect, or it can be a physical change.

LD: I have really just begun to see how my design education has influenced me outside of the mere "doing" of creative work. I have a healthy curiosity and patience from learning how to move through the long path of the creative process. There really is no end to the creative journey and I'm so happy to be privy to that secret :-) It is also the secret to life... it goes on and on, you're never really done.

ASEI: What advice would you give to another person seeking to improve their circumstances through finding satisfaction in their creative journey?

LD: It's so cliche, but enjoy the process. Make it interesting and exciting. Fancy-up your work area, bring in some flowers, light a candle. If you can find happiness in the doing, you win.

ASEI: Thank you Lori! To see Lori's work you can purchase Anthology House by requesting it from your local bookseller or by purchasing here:
